Jack Hurst - piano and keyboards

Jack has been playing music since the age of 10. Over the years, he has played at venues including Harrods, The Cutty Sark, 100 Club, RIBA and The Tabernacle. He is also a composer and piano teacher with a strong focus on community-based music and collaborative creative projects. Jack's compositional work spans choral music, theatre, dance, exhibitions, and screen, often developed in close collaboration with local communities and young musicians.
Paul Christmas - trumpet and flugelhorn

Paul kick-started his musical career from an early age, studying classical trumpet at Trinity College, then finishing the internationally respected advanced course in jazz and studio music at the Guildhall School of Music in London, and subsequently touring with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Since then, he has performed and featured in both small jazz ensembles, and in numerous big bands, touring in Britain, Ireland and the USA.
Pete Lyons - tenor saxophone

Pete was based in Sheffield for many years, gaining a strong reputation on the Sheffield jazz scene and gigging regularly in venues all around the Yorkshire and Manchester regions. He spent 25 years on the committee of Sheffield Jazz, a club showcasing Britain's top jazz artists, and was a regular teacher at the city's longstanding Jazz Workshop. Since his recent move to London his playing experience and talent have found a welcome home with the AVJ team.
Rob Miller - double bass and NS Omnibass

Rob has been a regular performer on the London jazz circuit for many years, with appearances ranging from Kit Packham’s One Jump Ahead and his own quintet in the ‘80’s right up to present day work with the East West Sextet and as bassist with various house bands supporting London jazz jam sessions. He is also a classically trained cellist, and further expanded his musical horizons as musical director and resident bassist of Charlie’s Jazz Club in West London during the ‘90s.
Alice Tully - vocals

Alice began her musical career in Scotland, gaining a degree in music from Glasgow University and subsequently performing in venues as far apart as Glasgow, Newcastle and London. The broad spectrum of her influences - from the jazz singing of Doris Day, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone to the soul greats such as Sam Cook and Aretha Franklin - means that Alice is able to adapt her performances a wide variety of musical situations. Whenever the occasion requires it, Alice adds a vocal sparkle to AVJ's trio, quartet, quintet and sextet ensembles.
Chris Bloomfield - drums and percussion

Chris's versatility and creativity as a drummer results in him being much in demand on the London music scene. As well as being the drummer of choice for AVJ performances, from our trio ensembles to our full sextet, he performs regularly with the School of Desire jazz quintet and at various London jazz jams. He is experienced at tailoring the drum sound to fit different situations, from settings requiring a gentle percussive accompaniment to larger venues requiring a fuller sound. When not playing jazz, Chris also gigs with indie and reggae bands.
